For most of the 47 million American and foreign tourists to the Big Apple, their first glimpse of the city is through one of its airports. New York City boasts of many of the world's greatest airports and for good reasons, too. After all, a great city such as Gotham rightfully deserves its three airports one of which is named after an iconic American president whose Camelot legacy still tickles our fancy.
But before that flight to New York for a great vacation away from the stereotypical sun, sand and sea - it does get boring to be in the company of palm trees - be sure that you have already booked your holiday apartment online. Your first taste of New York will be so heady booking a hotel room may well be the last thing on your mind and nobody wants to sleep out on the streets of the concrete jungle.
Anyways, there are three major New York airports in Gotham City servicing the New York New jersey Metropolitan Area. All of these airports are operated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which makes it convenient for everybody concerned since a centralized authority is in place.
Arguably, the most famous of these three airports is the iconic John F. Kennedy International Airport. With over 45 million passengers every year and billions of air freight cargo passing through JFK, it is the busiest international air freight and passenger gateway to the country. Despite such busyness, there is a sense of organization in the vast expense of the airport and its adjacent structures that it consistently ranks in the top three of many lists for traveler satisfaction.
JFK International Airport has 8 passenger terminals with 151 gates serving over 70 airlines from the country and other parts of the world. Just to mention a few of these airlines, there are All Nippon Airways, American Airlines and British Airways.
Then there's the LaGuardia Airport located in Queens County on Long Island, which makes it the nearest airport to the famous Manhattan district. It may be the smallest of New York's commercial airports but it has remained true to its reputation in the 1960s as the greatest airport in the world in many ways.
The LaGuardia Airport is connected to the New York City downtown by many types of ground transportation. Several city bus lines link it to the Long island Rail Road and the New York City Subway while taxis and limousines can also be flagged down inside the airport premises.
Last but not the least is the Newark Liberty International Airport located in both Newark and Elizabeth, New Jersey. It may be 15 miles off New York but it is as popular with tourists and residents alike for many reasons, not least of which is its excellent services. It is also the country's tenth busiest airport.
In all of these airports of New York City, the rules of the many agencies concerned with national security applies especially after the 9/11 terrorist attack. Be sure to pack your bags the right way and to pack in only the legal things, both measures of which will make passing through the airport so much faster and easier.
