Where Food Meet Like Never Before, That's New York City

New York is a place where people from all counties and countries as well as from all walks of life congregate to make their American dreams come true.  Many of these immigrants take their ethnic cuisines with them to the city, thus, making New York a melting pot of food and drinks, literally and figuratively.

In many ways, there are no typical foods in New York mainly because each borough will feature its own cuisine depending on what ethnic communities can be found in the area.  We are not talking about color since whites, blacks, yellows, reds and browns can congregate in the same area while still retaining the uniqueness of their cuisine as well as absorbing the culinary traditions of the other group. We did mention that New York is a melting pot.

For example, in the Bronx, the typical foods consist of dishes with Irish, Jamaican, Filipino and kosher foods while the Queens feature Greek, Colombian, Indian and Korean foods.  It must be emphasized that the other boroughs like Brooklyn, Manhattan and Staten Islands also feature similar foods in varying degrees of dominance.

The trick is to choose the cuisine that tickles your taste buds today and then experiment with other foods tomorrow.  New York is meant to be explored instead of being stuck in a rut of the same things over and over again on your vacation.

Well, of course, it is a different matter for your holiday apartment.  We do suggest sticking to the holiday apartment, which you should book online a few days before arrival in the city, for various reasons.  Keep in mind that booking a hotel in New York City can be an expensive affair, which is unlike booking a holiday apartment.

Anyways, NY boasts of many kinds of  New York foods invented - or at least alleged to be invented - in the city.  The city, after all, is known for its innovation in all things including food and drinks.  To name a few of these Big Apple staples, there are the Waldorf salad, eggs Benedict, steak Diane, egg cream, mallomars (marshmallows covered n chocolate),  Manhattan special (carbonated espresso), Bloody Mary, pasta primavera, chicken à la King, lobster Newburg, Delmonico steak, Reuben sandwich and penne alla vodka.

Now, if it is New York street food you want, which makes for a filling, delicious and affordable meal, we suggest New York-style pizza, hot dogs and hamburgers, Italian sausages and German bratwurst, soft pretzels, peanuts, almonds and cashews roasted with honey, shish kebab and falafel.  And yes, do try the New York-style Jewish cuisine consisting of the likes of celery soda, pastrami, tongue, knish, bagels and lox, cream cheese and potato pancakes.

We can assure you that New York is truly a place where all kinds of food and drinks meet to satisfy the stomachs of residents and tourists alike.  The hodgepodge of cuisines is just as colorful as the people living in the Big Apple but that's another story.

You can preparte your own New York typical food on your own New York holiday apartment
