Things to Do in New York
Ah, the City that Never Sleeps. New Yorkers and aspiring New Yorkers alike find every day in the city as a learning experience with something new to discover in the city at all times of the day and night in almost every nook and cranny. This is New York, after all, where the concrete jungle meets the cosmopolitan people.
And in such a truly big city as the Big Apple, there are plenty of things to do in New York, places to see and people to meet that sleeping may well be a necessity you can afford to forego. But sleep you must and so booking a holiday apartment should be on top of the list before even visiting New York. Booking it online is the best option since it is fast, easy and convenient - think of it as online shopping only for accommodations instead of for things.
The 45 million local and foreign tourists visiting New York find plenty of things to do indeed. You can choose to follow the horde or go off the beaten track - this is New York and you can do whatever you want within the bounds of the legal and natural law, of course.
For a first taste of the city, we suggest a guided tour like the Circle Line Cruise. These tours provide for a great overview of Gotham City in such an enchanting manner, not to mention that it give a face to the lines, dots and symbols on the city map. You can choose the quick 30-minute boat ride or the enjoyable 3-hour Full Island Cruise.
Even its jaded residents seek out Central Park, which is the most iconic of New York's many public and private parks, for its many natural and manmade attractions. It's a welcome green respite from the glitz, glamour and rat race of the concrete jungle. You can walk a walk, ride a bike, row on a boat, enjoy a picnic and even just watch people and life passing by in Central Park and no one will mind your business.
For a birds-eye view of New York City, we recommend the Top of the Rock observation deck. It offers the most spectacular views of the city atop one of the most iconic towers of the nation - the Empire State Building. Just be sure to go on timed ticketing so as to avoid the long lines into the tower.
For history buffs and bookworms, the cavernous New York Public Library is well worth a visit. Since admission to the library and the guided are free of charge, it is a good place to spend a few hours during your vacation. You never know what esoteric knowledge New York has to offer.
But what you simply cannot miss are the foods of New York. From street foods to gourmet cuisine, New York has it all. Plus, you will need sustenance after all the things that have done to discover the city - visiting art galleries and museums, watching movies and celebrities, and just generally taking in all the sights and sounds that only New York City can offer. Is it any wonder that New Yorkers love their city?
