Finding Your Universe in the New York Universities

New York is not just the Big Apple in name.  It is very deserving of its name considering its geographical size and societal influence on both the national and international arena.  And with the educational system in New York City as the largest in the world, not to mention the most important research centers and libraries, we can all expect New York to be the center of learning for decades to come.

So, if you are one for academic learning, do visit New York and bask in the glory of its prestigious universities and colleges.  But before doing that, remember to book your New York lodging well in advance preferably by logging into an online reservation site.  You want to wander around the universities and their libraries, not wander around looking for your type of accommodations once in the city.

As of last count, New York boasts 110 universities and colleges with almost 600,000 students, which is the highest student population of any US city.  So great is the reputation for academic excellence of its universities that more students from other states in the country come to the city, thus, besting even sunny California.  And that is why you want to book your holiday apartment in advance because students and academic tourists can rapidly snap up accommodations in the city.

If you want to start your university tour, go to the Ivy League school first.  You have Columbia University in upper Manhattan, which has produced brilliant alumni like President Barack Obama.  Its business graduate school is truly one of the best in the world.  And then there is Barnard College, which is one of the original Seven Sisters Colleges and is affiliated with Columbia University.  It is a women's college that has produced the likes of Martha Stewart and Margaret Mead.

Yet another sterling university is New York University in lower Manhattan.  It is the largest, non-profit private university in the country with over 18 schools, colleges and divisions.  Distinguished alumni include Ang Lee, Alan Greenspan, and Jonas Salk.

Fordham University is a pioneering Catholic university with a strong Jesuit tradition.  Its degrees offered include law, education, social work, business, religion, and the arts and sciences.  An additional attraction is its Fordham Museum of Greek, Etruscan and Roman Art, the largest in its genre within metropolitan New York.

And of course, don't forget the New York Law School, which is one of the oldest in the country.  You will definitely admire its teaching methods if only because of the brilliant alumni of the law school including 100 sitting judges and partners in law firms, business and civic leaders, cultural luminaries, athletes and political figures.

Indeed, with so many universities to choose from, you can and will find your own place in the universe.
